John J. Robbins, Sr. Founder

John J. Robbins, Sr. was a true visionary.

Widely regarded as a leader in the field of consumer directed healthcare, John guided DataPath to many groundbreaking firsts in the plan service provider marketplace. He had an innate ability to see the big picture and subsequently direct creation of the detailed systems and services necessary to deliver a solution to the market. Above all, he sincerely valued the relationships that served as the foundation of the company. His passion and larger-than-life personality are affectionately remembered by all who knew him.

John led the company from start-up in his home basement to become a principal provider of high-quality consumer directed healthcare solutions and services with 90 employees. With business computing still in its infancy, he saw the need to take complex and vague government regulations on tax-advantaged employee benefits and build administrative systems for the emergent industry. In that Little Rock basement, one of the first Section 125 administration software programs was developed – the first of many milestones in John’s 25+ year journey to create and offer industry-leading solutions to the employee benefit delivery market.

After earning a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Arkansas, BA in Finance and Economics from the University of Memphis, and MBA from the University of Hawaii, John became a Certified Public Accountant. Shortly thereafter, he founded DataPath, Inc. on October 1, 1984. John was a member of several state and national organizations, including the Arkansas Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Academic Society, Employers Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC) for which he served as a member of the board of directors from 2007-2011, Society of Professional Benefit Administrators (SPBA), and the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA).

John left a far-reaching legacy when he passed away February 22, 2011 after a battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. All of us at DataPath strive to maintain his lasting vision and live out his mission of “the continual discovery of our true selves through grace as we endeavor to know, love and serve God.”
